Documentary – Plan Colombia (2003)

Directed by Gerard Ungerman, Plan Colombia: Cashing in on the Drug War Failure documents what many believe to be dangerous hypocrisy on the part of the American government. The film gives particular attention to the reasons behind the drug trade (Colombia is the world’s biggest cocaine exporter), which include illegal trade funded by radicals, the corrupt government, and the simple fact that most farmers harvest coca because they can’t survive on the profits of legitimate food crops. Ungerman also explores the link to America’s notorious School of the Americas in Georgia and how targeted aerial fumigation has destroyed perfectly legal natural resources in the mission to eradicate drug crops. The film concludes that the U.S. military-industrial complex is cashing in on the violence they themselves perpetrate, while doing little to actually stem cocaine production.

Documentary – Checkpoint (2003)

Filmed during 2001-2003, this cinema shows  the subjugation of ordinary Palestinians at Israeli checkpoints doesn’t spend time discussing the historical context of the conflict. Instead, the intent is to show viewers, without much meddling by the voice of the filmmaker Yoav Shamir, the power dynamics enforced at the checkpoints that choke the infrastructure of Palestinian society.

The simplest of activities are made impossible by Israeli soldiers, who are documented in the film as sometimes denying Palestinians movement just because they can. Palestinian men, women, and children – healthy, frail, old, and young – are forced to wait in bitter thunderstorms, snow, and the heat to get to hospitals, schools, funerals, jobs, and their homes.

Because the film focuses on just this one aspect of the conflict – the checkpoints – the full horrors of the Israeli military occupation, like the violence that usually makes the news, aren’t readily apparent. But it vividly demonstrates the banality of the occupation – the waiting, the frustration, the struggle of wills between the Palestinian population and the barely out of high-school Israeli boys who operate the checkpoints – the only Israelis most Palestinians will ever meet.  (excerpt from the electronic intifada)

Documentary – Militainment, Inc.: Militarism & Pop Culture (120 mins.)

Militainment, Inc. offers a fascinating, disturbing, and timely glimpse into the militarization of American popular culture, examining how U.S. news coverage has come to resemble Hollywood film, video games, and “reality television” in its glamorization of war. Mobilizing an astonishing range of media examples – from news anchors’ idolatry of military machinery to the impact of government propaganda on war reporting – the film asks: How has war taken its place in the culture as an entertainment spectacle? And how does presenting war as entertainment affect the ability of citizens to evaluate the necessity and real human costs of military action? The film is broken down into nine sections, each between 10 and 20 minutes in length, allowing for in-depth classroom analysis of individual elements of this wide-ranging phenomenon.

Documentary – The Iron Wall (2006)

In 1923 Vladimir Jabotinsky, leading intellectual of the Zionist movement and father of the right wing of that movement, wrote: “Zionist colonization must either stop, or else proceed regardless of the native population.

Which means that it can proceed and develop only under the protection of a power that is independent of the native population – behind an The Iron Wall , which the native population cannot breach.” First published in Russian under the title O Zheleznoi Stene in Rassvyet, 4 November 1923.

From that day these words became the official and unspoken policy of the Zionist movement and later the state of Israel. Settlements were used from the beginning to create a Zionist foothold in Palestine. The Iron Wall documentary exposes this phenomenon and follows the timeline, size, population of the settlements, and its impact on the peace process. This film also touches on the latest project to make the settlements a permanent fact on the ground; the wall that Israel is building in the West Bank and its impact on the Palestinian people.

Documentary – The New American Century (94 mins.)

This film goes in detail through the untold history of The Project for the New American Century with tons of archival footage and connects it right into the present. This film exposes how every major war in US history was based on a complete fraud with video of insiders themselves admitting it.

The film provides solid evidence for the true reasons behind the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, whose unfolding is described in chilling detail in a document called “Project for the New American Century”, published in the year 2,000, that seems to have served as the actual blueprint for such dramatic events.

Documentary – Ring of Power (4h 20 mins.)

This documentary represents over four years of research by an anonymous professional. The result is an astonishing account of the histories of the world detailing the transference of power from the ancient world to the modern age and the mechanisms of that power, from organised religion to the corporate media and the pantomime of limited democracy.

The production values are far from professional but the high degree and accuracy of the information is remarkable, as is the ability of the film-maker to present the complete picture from an ancient and complex puzzle.

Documentary – Esoteric Agenda

The more humanity strays from its’ origin, the more we deny our bond with nature, the farther from perfection we become. We are the only creatures on the planet that use symbols in reference to something else. This documentary shows that we use symbols for absolutely everything the mind can conceive of. There is at least one word or icon or gesture to insinuate everything our five senses can detect and then some. But along with this beautiful gift comes a flaw.

Most people are unwilling to seek and create their own interpretations of these symbols. Instead, they blindly submit to preconceived definitions and connotations given by sources unknown. Because of this, many things have been predetermined in our understanding of life without our knowledge. Words can be perverted and used to manipulate rather than to inform. Symbols can be used to segregate rather than unite. And those given the responsibility and authority to disseminate information to the public possess the ability to do with it as they choose.

Documentary – The Oil Factor: Behind the War on Terror (89 mins.)

Experts have estimated that at the current rate of production, the United States and Europe will exhaust their supplies of oil by the year 2010. Meanwhile, the nation of Iraq holds the world’s second largest reserve of oil, representing nearly three-quarters of the Earth’s current petroleum supplies. As the United States and Great Britain mount an ongoing war in Iraq that has eliminated their former government and established a new one in its place under American watch, is it a coincidence that Iraq holds a massive supply of a strategic resource America badly needs? Especially given the fact that a number of the key reasons the United States had presented for going to war (most notably Iraq’s alleged stockpile of weapons of mass destruction) have turned out to be based on false information? The Oil Factor: Behind the War on Terror is a documentary that examines America’s continuing thirst for oil, how it has impacted the War in Iraq.
