Swedish PM: No apology to Israel

Published: Aug. 23, 2009 – Press TV

Swedish prime minister says his country will not apologize for an article in a Swedish newspaper accusing Israel of killing Palestinians to plunder their organs.

“No one can demand that the Swedish government violates its own constitution. Freedom of speech is an indispensable part of Swedish society,” Fredrik Reinfeldt was quoted as telling the Swedish news agency TT on Saturday.

Swedish top diplomat has also ruled out any plan to apologize to Israel.

“The government does not review individual articles or what ispublished in the press. That is not our task,” Foreign Minister Carl Bildt told Swedish radio news.

In an article titled “They plunder the organs of our sons”, the daily Aftonbladet said Israeli soldiers abduct young Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza Strip and return their bodies to their families after removing their organs.

“Our sons are used as involuntary organ donors,” relatives of Khalid a Palestinian man from Nablus told Donald Bostrom who authored the report, which was published on Aug. 17.

Bostrom has told Press TV that an international war crimes investigation awaits Israel over its soldiers’ harvest of organs from dead Palestinians.

The freelance journalist underscored that the International Court of Justice — the principal judicial body of the United Nations — will likely investigate the report.

  1. Kerry says:

Journalists write stories so their names will be known. This journalist wrote accusations without proof just to have something to write. Israel should simply deny all Swedish journalists entry into Israel. It is not their job to sort out those Swedish journalists that have integrity from those who do not. The Swedish government does not have to stop free speech. However, they can research the facts for themselves and then issue their report.

  2. MARCUS says:

Israel has become its own worst enemy. They deny reporters access to their many incursions into occupied territory and the deaths that occur there then think that they will get a pass simply because they yell “antisemitism” (by the way, the Arabs are a semite people too). They ignore the 70 odd UN Resolutions condemning their actions and think the rest of the world should say “how-high” when they say “jump”. Here is a little history concerning Israel. Israel’s original sin is Zionism, the ideology that a Jewish State should replace the former Palestine. At the root of the problem is Zionism’s exclusiveness structure whereby only Jews are treated as first-class citizens. In order to create and consolidate a Jewish State in 1948, Zionists expelled 750,000 Palestinians from their homeland and never allowed them or their descendants to return. In addition, Israeli forces destroyed over 400 Palestinian villages and perpetrated about three dozen massacres. In 1967, the Israelis forced another 350,000 Palestinians to flee the West Bank and Gaza as well as 147,000 Syrians from the Golan Heights. Since 1967 Israel has placed the entire Palestinian population of the Territories under military occupation. All wars in history have been about territory, more land and more natural resources. Now, as a student of the Bible it can be argued that the “Old Testament” is merely an Israeli history book, i.e. a history of the “Jews”. And if I was writing my history, I would be God’s chosen people also. Regardless, Palestinians cannot get to schools, businesses, or pursue normal economic life. They must face checkpoints without end, “targeted assassinations,” tanks, sharpshooters, F-16s and Apache helicopters in their population centers. A “security wall” currently being erected in the West Bank is gobbling up thousands of acres of Palestinian olive groves, farms, factories, and is affecting hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in a hundred villages or communities located in between the wall and Israel’s 1967 borders or nearby. If the Nation of Israel is capable of the aforementioned well, organ harvesting is not far behind.
