Listening to the 1st 2 segments: (1) He says ‘Palestine is the longest occupationIs’ but is not Tibet a longer occupation than Palestine? There are other occupations in the world today that are also longer.
(2) he says that Iran’s original crime was ‘independance from the US’. Did Iran not pick this fight with the 1979 embassey hostage taking? President Carter wanted no part of any conflict but this was crudely forced upon him.
There are many other equally obvious errors of fact.
20 books and 50 documentaries in 40 years. That is a HUGE output. How ell researched is his work? By this interview, very badly researched.
Why do we pay attention to this man who clearly lacks credibility?
I am now listening to Part 4.
He says ‘American drones launched from a base near Las Vegas, Nevada, have killed 700 civilians’.
Launched from Las Vegas nevada? This is wacky.
The technology does not exist for an unmanned drone to fly that distance without refueling.
Then he goes on about conspiracy stuff about ‘soon American armies will not be required to enforce American hegemony’. Apparently, in John Pilger’s world, you are either one of his acolytes or a tool of the facists.
This is just not a serious commentator. I won’t listen to further segments. This is just silliness.
Andrew maybe you should, y’know, actually take the time to research Pilger. He’s been doing war and political reporting since the Vietnam War and has a consistent perspective and is generally a stickler for detail, as many of his sometimes tense sit-down interviews demand that he know what he’s talking about and that his info is accurate and well-researched.
“There are many other equally obvious errors of fact.”
Well, that doesn’t get you off the hook. you only mentioned two inaccuracies; if these clips are so festooned with errors that you can’t watch them I think you’re obligated to back that up by citing some specific examples, and specific references that back up your claims.
Otherwise, it sounds like you stopped watching simply because Pilger’s politics don’t jibe with your own.
